1 Golden Point Rd Blackwood – Blackwood Hotel – Heritage properties can be adapted with consideration and respect to their original qualities and imbued with your contemporary design expectation – value our history

Established in 1868 during the gold rush era, the Blackwood Hotel is Victoria’s oldest continuously licensed weatherboard pub. Located 89 km northwest of Melbourne in the Wombat State Forest, it originally served as a Cobb and Co. coach booking office and a makeshift morgue.

GSA Architects were commissioned in 2025 to design and oversee a complete external restoration and internal refurbishment that also updated a forest-viewing deck and restored its historic character. New internal finishes, kitchen , bar, and generous banquette dining areas are now enjoyed by the patrons. The front bar has had the fireplace and original high ceiling restored remains a warm and inviting area.

Following an extensive refurbishment, it remains a popular regional destination, and we highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.
